Remembering 2020 & looking forward to 2021

It still feels like 2019 just ended, and 2020 has begun. Yet here we are, nearly approaching the end of 2020, having lived through a roller coaster of a year turned upside down by COVID19. And much like everyone else, 2020 has been a very transitional year for me. It’s the year I finally started making strides towards a musical career. Some of this year’s musical highlights include:

  • Commercially releasing my first single “So Into You” on DSPs like Spotify this year, seeing it picked up by some playlists and racking up an excess of 68k streams to date

  • Getting radio airplay for the first time ever on Switchradio UK with “So Into You”

  • Commercially releasing my second single, and first original song, “Never Let Go”

  • Having gone “viral” on the Ultimate Guitar app with my short cover of “Finesse” by Bruno Mars

  • Receiving some likes/comments on my singing posts from a couple prominent celebrities

  • Getting back into songwriting by writing a bunch of original music

  • Recording vocals for a full-length album from the comfort of my own home, and from the closet specifically!

  • Getting reviewed by a music blog for the first time ever

  • Networking with so many talented musicians through social media

  • Starting a growing private vocal studio and developing my career as a voice teacher/coach.

  • Experiencing the audition process for a TV show

There are countless more highlights I’m sure I don’t recall or can’t mention at the moment. I still remember thinking about posting singing covers on social media at the end of last year, but I didn’t take action online until coronavirus hit and a family member challenged me to post something on Instagram late March. I don’t know why it took me so long to get started, but ever since then I can confidently say taking a step of faith into the unknown has been so rewarding and fulfilling. I look forward to being able to look back at the end of 2021 reminiscing on what new opportunities God opens up as I continue taking steps of faith into the unknown in the upcoming year!
